Two realtors filed a lawsuit against Republican Alabama gubernatorial nominee Tommy Tuberville Wednesday, alleging that the U.S. senator does not meet constitutional residency requirements to run for governor. The suit seeks to put Tuberville on trial in front of a jury. A spokesperson for Tuberville’s campaign on Wednesday called the lawsuit “the same tired residency hoax.”

Reps. Frances Holk-Jones, R-Orange Beach and Pebblin Warren, D-Tuskegee, won their party’s primary runoffs Tuesday evening, avoiding the fate of eight of their colleagues defeated in the May 19 primaries. Voters also picked nominees in three other House races and a state Senate race in Huntsville being watched by Democrats as the chance for a pick-up in the upper chamber.

The Southern Poverty Law Center on Tuesday named Ryan Haygood its next president and CEO. Haygood, a civil rights attorney by training, currently runs the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. The new leader comes as the civil rights organization faces a lawsuit from the U.S. Department of Justice over a paid informant program the SPLC once used to disrupt the activities of racist and extremist groups.
