The field for the November elections was finally set in Tuesday’s primary runoff elections. In the U.S. Senate race, Republican U.S. Rep. Barry Moore will face Democratic nominee Everett Wess, an attorney. Katherine Robertson won the Republican nod for attorney general, setting up a battle with Democratic nominee Jeff McLaughlin, a former state legislator. John Wahl won the GOP nomination for lieutenant governor and will face Democratic nominee Phillip Ensler in the fall.

Greene County in western Alabama is the state's smallest by population. It also consistently reports some of the highest voter turnout rates in the state. In the May 19th primary, about 51% of the county's voters cast ballots, compared to 23% statewide. Local residents and officials cite several reasons for their engagement. A major one is the memory of Jim Crow voter disenfranchisement.

A lawsuit filed against Republican Alabama gubernatorial nominee Tommy Tuberville Wednesday alleged that the U.S. senator does not meet constitutional residency requirements to run for governor. The suit seeks to put Tuberville on trial in front of a jury. A spokesperson for Tuberville’s campaign on Wednesday called the lawsuit “the same tired residency hoax.”
